We have seen a lot of changes since chalk and board and in an ever-evolving technological world we look at how advances in technology have affected the classroom and give a few thoughts as to why Henry Blue thinks this is both good and bad.

Industries are now very reliant on technology skilled people and the use of this in schools helps prepare students for future life. We want students to be competent using different platforms and having strong research skills when leaving the education system and reaching adult life.

The speed of lessons could be easily improved (if needed) with the use of technology in the classroom. Students can work faster and more effective if we us technology in the right way. It can also be a quicker and easier way to mark answers in class.  

There is a number of tools including apps and e-books that can make learning more fun. Classroom gamification can be used in order to improve attention of the students but as well create a fun learning atmosphere whilst supporting the course’s learning objectives.

However, to put it simply, technology in the classroom can be a distraction. When students work with a computer or tablet, they do not focus as much on the task in hand and the attention of the class lowers.

Some technologies are not available to all students. Should we be in a situation where some students cannot perform because of a wealth barrier? Not all students have access to an iPad or internet outside of school and learning should be as inclusive as possible.

Not Everything online is correct. Young students are easily influenced and when researching may believe that all research they conduct is factual. We need to ensure that students have strong guidance on what is an unreliable source.

To conclude, we think that if technology is used correctly it can be a massive learning aid and ultimately, we want students to have instant access to fresh information that can supplement their learning experience.
